Before using your bow to hunt, be sure to check your equipment and ensure everything is in order. A lot of problems can occur starting at your bow. Checking your equipment will ensure that you will have an enjoyable experience before going to the forest for your buck.

To start, inspect your bow. Check your string for wear, replace if needed and wax it. Next check your nock points, kisser, and peep. Replace any of these items if needed as well.

If you have any steel surfaces that has rust, clean it by wiping it down with gun oil. Lubricate all of the bow’s moving parts. Archers recommend using a dry graphite lubricate which works great for lubrication moving sights. If you have a pendulum or another type of sight with moving parts, check its functions and apply the dry graphite lubricant at the pivot points.

Now, inspect your rest’s adjustment and replace your heat shrink if needed. Check your string silencers as well. If you use a quiver, double check its mount. Be sure it is tight so that it will not vibrate and hum when its time for you to shoot. Lastly, make sure your quiver holds to your arrows securely.

The rested area for your broadhead needs to be in good condition. If your bow has a guide slide and rod, take a look. Check for dents, nicks, or wear. Replace or fix these as needed.

When a limb breaks it can cause injuries. For your safety, check your limbs and look for any cracks, fissures, or anything else that seems out of place. Replace the entire limb if necessary. Do not skip this step it will ensure that your bow is in complete working order.

As an extra step, take a look a your bow’s finish. Some bow hunters like to apply matte camo tape over any surface that might show a glare. By taking using camo tape, your bow will appear glare-free and well camouflaged.

After your bow inspection, you would want to check your accessories. Ensure whatever type of hand and arm coverage you are using is in good condition. This will also help prevent injuries and add on a much more pleasure experience. If you are using a release, check for worn parts.

Don’t forget to check the condition of your broadheads. Replace or sharpen dull blades no matter what. Razor-sharp blades are necessary to ensure the clean and quick kill, which any true hunting archer wants. Making animals suffer uselessly is not part of the sport of archery or bow hunting.

Finally give your arrows a good check over. Do a last inspection for things like warped or bent shafts, loose or damaged fletchings (these need to be replaced or repaired), and  broken, badly worn, or cracked nocks, which you’ll have to replace.
